Music Ministries

Music is a special gift from God through which we can communicate with him and praise him in ways words alone cannot express. Rush’s music ministry uses God’s gifts in several ways:

Chancel Choir welcomes anyone from high school age and older who enjoys singing.The choir sings anthems at both the traditional and contemporary services. Rehearsal is between services in the choir room and on Tuesday evenings. Members sing at either service or both.

The Rush Praise Band has a variety of instrumentalists. We are interested in people who play instruments and would enjoy making music as an important part of the 10:45 worship service.

We are always interested in soloist, ensembles, and duets, to provide special music at the 10:45 service. If you have the gift of musical ability we would love to have you share it in worship.

Christian Education

Persons of all ages are invited to join in the ministry of Christian education here at Rush United Methodist Church. Weekly classes are offered for all ages, pre-school through adults, Sunday mornings 9:30- 10:30 a.m.

We embrace a diverse "small group" ministry. Groups have different focuses - from Bible study to contemporary discussion to service projects. Groups meet at various times and days throughout the week - at church or at member's homes.

We encourage everyone to experience our community through the Christian education program. It will help all ages grow deeper in their faith and knowledge of Jesus Christ.

EldersAt Rush United Methodist Church, the Council of Elders is comprised of nine members and the Senior Pastor. The main function of the Elders is to be the visionary body for the church. The Elders are also responsbile for working with the Pastoral staff and congregation on a variety of day to day issues. Elder candidates are nominated by the Pastor, members and/or current Elders. The nominees meet with a congregational discernment committee prior to being voted on by the congregation at Church Conference. There are no term limits and vacancies are filled as they occur. Each elder is reaffirmed annually. Each elder is required to act as a liason for a ministry within the church.Meetings & Communication:Elders meet monthly to review current issues and take actions as needed. Once a month, the elders hold an informal information session with the congregation. The elders also sponsor a quarterly conference to inform the congregation of the prior quarter activities and plans for the future.Contact Information:Potential and current members are encouraged to contact Elders at any time with questions about Rush United Methodist Church. PromiseLand Child CarePromiseLand Child Care is a ministry of Rush United Methodist Church that operates a New York state licensed child care facility. Our Mission: PromiseLand is committed to providing a warm, secure, responsive environment in which children can develop Christian values and self-worth; and grow physically, emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually.Our Purpose is: to help a child develop a healthy personality, and develop the conscience, feelings, and attitudes which form the foundation for a positive self-image and good relationships.- To encourage the child's self-confidence, concern for others, cooperation in work and play, and a spirit of sharing.- To increase the child's skills in listening, self-discipline, conversation, creative self-expression, independent work and play, and decision making.We offer an exciting program in a child-friendly facility with a nurturing atmosphere, and a caring, well-trained staff. Well-balanced lunches and snacks are provided daily, prepared on the premises by our professionally trained chef. Programs AvailableDay care: Developmentally appropriate child centered programs for children ages 6 weeks - 5 years old.Infants: Warm home-like room, with space to move and play. Lots of love and attention, with 2:1 infant to adult ratio, for most of the day. Toddlers: Child-directed curriculum, with space to move and explore. Daily activities include art, music, reading, outdoor and indoor play. Preschool: Theme-based pre-K curriculum for ages 3-5. Daily activities include: art & crafts, directed activities (kindergarten readiness) & free play, computer fun & basics, indoor & outdoor play, story and music times. Before and After School Program Provides children grades Kdg.-5th with a warm and positive environment, and the opportunity to develop personal and social skills. Bus service is provided by the Rush-Henrietta School district. Time is set aside for snacks, homework, directed activities, and free play. Programs are provided for half-day and full-day school vacations, based on the Rush-Henrietta school calendar. Activities include: art & craft, sports, cooking, and walking field trips to local places of interest
